CADARN

CADARN is a system-level intervention to unlock the potential of cancer research across Wales.

It tackles long-standing barriers — including uneven access, protracted approvals and slow recruitment — working with the system to bring structure and shared focus to drive faster, fairer delivery.

Developed by Moondance Cancer Initiative, CADARN adapts the proven GRECCAR model from France — which fosters national collaboration and rapid implementation — and tailors it to the Welsh context, with a focus on equity and clinical relevance.

CADARN doesn’t simply fund research, it concentrates collective effort on shared priorities through targeted rounds, each focused on a single tumour site. These rounds combine all-Wales delivery of an existing study with the generation of new ideas, and the support needed to turn both into action.

By aligning national effort, CADARN ensures patients, wherever they live, have access to research that can improve care and outcomes. It’s one of the ways Moondance Cancer Initiative is helping to make Wales a world leader in cancer survival.

The first CADARN round — focused on colorectal cancer — is already underway. The National Meeting will take place on Thursday 13 November 2025 at The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff, with individual invitations issued throughout early September.
