In April and October 2024, the NHS Wales Cancer Network, in collaboration with Moondance Cancer Initiative, hosted two workshops, one in Newport and one in Deganwy, providing expert information on Lynch syndrome.

Chaired by Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Bowel Cancer Initiative clinical lead Mr Martyn Evans, the workshops covered the latest in best practice in Lynch Syndrome diagnosis and management for everyone involved in bowel cancer care.

Talks and interactive sessions were delivered by eminent speakers who lead on the Lynch Syndrome Quality Improvement Project in England, including Consultant Colorectal Surgeons Frank McDermott and Sue Clark, Consultant Gastroenterologist Kevin Monahan, and National Lead Nurse for the work Laura Monje-Garcia.  This was supported by colleagues from the All Wales Medical Genomics Service, pathology and oncology, providing the latest information on diagnostic pathways and treatment implications.

Attended by over 120 people across the two days, these workshops have been captured in a series of videos, accessible below, that cover the role and importance of genomics in cancer and cancer treatment; diagnosing and managing Lynch syndrome; and Lynch syndrome beyond diagnosis.

With roughly 10,000 people in Wales living with Lynch syndrome, many of whom are yet to be diagnosed, there are important opportunities for improving awareness of this condition, how it is tested for and approaches to managing it.

Head here to watch all the sessions from the workshop.
